The Rhätische Bahn

While those who wish to post photos are still sorting them, I thought some of you might like a reminder, and a little extra info, about the metre-gauge railways radiating from out first centre, Chur. Here's a map of the extent of this real-life trainset!
For info 'from the horse's mouth', go to the railway's own website at http://www.rhb.ch/index.e.php. There are lots of mouthwatering pictures at http://www.rhb.ch/gallery/gallery.e.php
For a quick overview look at the Wikipedia entry at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RhB. There you get a clue as to why we stopped so long at Pontresina on our way to Poschiavo: the electricity voltage changes there, so either they changed the locomotive, or had to reset its internal transformers.

I have looked at a DVD of the Bernina Express, which explains that at Pontresina they change locos. They replact the one that runs on 11000 volts AC to 2 railcars running on DC.

I rather thought it was actual motive power that changed, since when I looked more carefully at all my photos, I saw that the loco had been replaced by a 2-car EMU!
